Supplies in an emergency preparedness kit contain the above items although the most important would be a knife (often a Swiss army knife or a multi-tool), food and water for three days per person, a first aid kit, blanket and a flashlight.
When preparing for an emergency you must remember that you could be anywhere when a disaster strikes like at home in your vehicle or even at work.
You need to have supplies on hand at each location as you do not know at which one you will be at or where your family members are located. Having emergency survival kits at each location will help protect you wherever you may be and will also provide additional emergency supplies if you can get to them.
A 72 Hour Kit is recommended as essential for any emergency as this could mean the difference between life and death. There are many types of disasters and emergencies such as floods, fires and earthquakes and it is estimated that after a major disaster, it may take up to three days for relief workers to reach some areas which is why 72 hours is a benchmark number that is used.
